Well here we are, the end of February! And I have to say I’m not that upset to see it go. January totally flew by this year, but holy did February seem endless, and all the cold weather we’ve been having sure hasn’t helped. I’ve spent most of my evenings and weekends cozied up on the couch with a book and a glass of wine [which I’ve certainly enjoyed], but I have to admit I’m starting to think about spring. And spring is looking like it’s a loooong ways off so in the meantime, here’s a bit of an update on what’s going on in our everyday life…
I’m not going to lie guys, January and February have been a bit uneventful. I had to take sometime off from the gym after Christmas, so I’ve been filling it by trying to get ahead at work. And since it’s been so cold, my weekends have been filled with good books, new recipes, and [depending on how things go] the beginnings of some exciting projects.
Something That’s Been On My Mind
Japan! I just posted our entire 14-day itinerary and I can’t wait for all the adventures we’ve got planned.
Also on my mind; how to pack for Japan. Here in northern Alberta we are used to dressing for +30 and -30, so I’m struggling with how to pack for +15. I know it’s probably not shorts weather, but after all the cold we’ve had it sure seems like it would be!
Books I’ve Been Reading
Between Christmas break and the week I took off mid-January, I’ve been powering through books. I’m currently working through The Paris Wife [my thoughts on that when I’m further along], but I also managed to get through:
- The House Swap
- Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine [I really enjoyed this one]
- You Can Buy Happiness (and It’s Cheap) [This one was another favorite to]
- FYI: For Your Improvement
- The Wisdom Trail
- How to Be Yourself: Quiet Your Inner Critic and Rise Above Social Anxiety
- Circling the Sun [This one was definitely one of the best books I’ve ever read. I actually enjoyed it so much I added another one of Paula McLain’s books to my reading list.]
- The Kite Runner [Also a really good book]
And What I Can’t Stop Listening To
Mumford & Sons new album!

Hard Truths About Time Management…This post really hit home for me. One of my favorite points from this post is that “We all have different lifestyles and desires in life, so the key is prioritizing the most important things to YOU and managing your time around that.”
But I think what I loved most about this post is the reminder that there is a difference between not having time, and not making something a priority.
So yes, I can’t always do everything, I also need to be honest with myself about where my time is going [cough, cough, Instagram].
Choosing Your Word of The Year…I LOVED this take on resolutions. I could totally relate to setting a million goals for myself and completely losing track of a few of them as the year goes on. But having a single word that encompasses everything to come back to when I start to lose focus would be a great way to stay on track.
9 Things To Do Every Sunday For An Amazing Week…First, I absolutely loved the tip “…think of Sundays like the first day of the week. It really takes the edge and pressure off of Mondays. You can get a head start on your work for the week by prepping on Sundays.”
But in addition to that, this post perfectly sums up my ideal Sunday. I’ll admit, I’m not always perfect, but as much as I can I try to do every one of these things on Sunday and it really does make for a much easier week.
